Region: Barossa Valley
Bottle size: 750 mL
Alte Reben is German for “old vines” – and the Kaesler Mataro vines are some of the oldest remaining in the Barossa Valley. At Kaesler, we usually blend the Mataro with Grenache and Shiraz – however in exceptional years the Mataro can shine all on its own.
Eyes: Garnet red.
Nose: Blackberries and mulberries with hints of orange rind and dark chocolate
Mouth: You can taste some of the oak and youthful tannin, chalky and raw, yet elegant.
Winemaking notes: Fruit was hand-picked then fermented with 10% whole bunches and stalks. Wine was pumped over each morning then hand rammed three times per day. Skins were hand pressed with all the pressings added back in to the blend. Matured for two years in older oak. No fining or filtration.
Sorry, 2010 Kaesler 'Alte Reben' Mataro is only available to Club members.
