2009 Kaesler Old Vine Semillon

Growing conditions: The 2009 vintage was like a scary déjà vu relative to 2008. A serious spike of heat played a determining role in the picking decisions for the season.
Winemaking notes: The fruit for the 2009 Semillon was taken before the onset of the early heat. This has delivered a wine that has tight focussed acidity and with that capacity to age for some time. As always the ferment was conducted warm relative to other Semillons, and the wine was left on light yeast lees to help build structure in the wine and mop up any residual phenolic from pressing. It’s a wine that we are enormously excited about, as it’s suggests it will improve with age over the next decade.
