Region: Barossa Valley
Bottle size: 750 mL
100% Shiraz sourced from Kaesler estate vines planted in 1899 at Marananga. This vineyard has a soil type that is very unique and quite different to most of the Kaesler vineyards. We always suspected that we could do a single vineyard wine from this patch, as it is fairly large by old vine standards and not too many can boast custody of nine acres of Shiraz planted three centuries ago in 1899. It’s a national treasure!
Limited Edition, only 500 cases produced. Cellars for up to 20 years in correct cellaring.
Eyes: Deep red
Nose: Blackberries, mulberries with hints of espresso and dark chocolate.
Mouth: Huge length of flavour on the palate, yet refined – you can taste some of the oak and youthful tannin. Beautifully raw, yet elegant. It’s an attractive wine and will age with grace.
Growing conditions: Vineyard Soils Schist rock over blue grey clay / deep compacted broken down schist with red sandstone pebbles on the surface along creek line (Marananga)
Vine Age Shiraz planted in 1899 (Marananga)
Winemaking notes: Fruit was hand-picked on 14th February 2013 and was left for 7 days on skins. During this time, the wine was pumped over gently twice per day. This wine has been matured in 35% new and 65% 1 and 2 year old French oak for 19 months. No fining or filtration.
